This short non-fiction book is a graded reader by Nagazaki Atsuko and it introduces you to important points of interest for the city of Hiroshima and the island of Miyajima.
I found all the information here well summarised in a comprehensible way. Level 4 in the reading level overview by the NPO Tagengo Tadoku is described as a level inbetween N3 and N2, but because there’s a very strong focus on history in this book, I believe N2 readers will be better equipped to deal with the specific vocabulary.
A large part of the book is an overview of the history of Hiroshima from the Edo period to the atomic bombing. Comparatively, I found the information on Miyajima a little too short unfortunately. I saw it more like additional information, as the focus is very much Hiroshima.
This text is part of the graded reader set 日本語多読ブックス, Volume 4. It’s a set with 5 books for upper intermediate reading abilities – somewhere inbetween N3 and N2. There are 3 non-fiction texts and 2 fictional stories.
